“Makeup is only for ugly people, trying to disguise their real, flawed selves from the world.”
Recently I made the observation that there is an alarming stigma coupled to teens who choose to wear makeup. It is seen (by the ridiculous or the obsolete generations) that the only reason why you could be wearing makeup is because you must have something to hide. As if something like a “flawed being” even existed…
Beauty also isn’t about getting a boy to like you – makeup lovers all around the world will testify to that. Wearing makeup is a total expression of emotion – a reflection of your personality or the personality you want to share with the world that day. Makeup shouldn’t be conforming and Moj Mahdara, CEO of Beautycon Media, phrases it perfectly, “Beauty is no longer about a concealer culture and covering up what’s wrong with you. It is an expression of power.”
Here are the last two looks of the Minette’s World x MAC collaboration – a little bit more playful and a little bit more eccentric. Once again, thank you to the incredible Raine Tauber for the makeup looks and tips as well as a big thank you to Frances Marais for the absolutely incredible shots.
Trend: Diffused Lip
Red lips are a classic but this season we are wearing them worn in and softly edged. To create this look a Liptensity lipstick called Dionysus was used and applied to the centre of the lip. Then the #219 brush was used to softly blend it to the edge and slightly over. A little more definition to the eyes was added with the Dusty Rose Times Nine palette and a slick of Extended Play mascara. This is a perfect look for a dinner or drinks event.
Tips: Make sure your lips are well moisturised before applying lipstick or else it will grab onto the dry areas. When you are wearing a deeper lip its best to keep the eye less of a focus so it keeps the look from being overdone. Lastly, add a touch of highlighter to the bow of your lip to help define your lips and make the colour pop.
Trend: Kaleidoscope Eye
This trend is a fun take on wearing colour and is perfect for a night out or a music festival. Dazzleshadow in I Like To Watch was used over the entire eyelid and blended out softly with the #238 brush. Then under the lashes, at the bottom, Undercurrent Pearlglide Intense liner was added for definition and a dramatic pop. Both of these products have high glitter content so are perfect for a “glam eye”. To finish off the look add clear lipgloss for an understated subtle lip.
Tips: If your eye make up is the focus, keep all other features toned down. Softly blending your eyeliner can make the eyes appear larger. Also, if you are not a fan of colourful eyeshadows then a metallic or bright eyeliner is a great element to bring in some colour and excitement – a little glitter never hurt either!
